Personnel with special skills are required to execute such activities efficiently and profitably. Once you have an endeavour going, you will soon need managers. To choose a good manager is a very critical decision that will have long term impact on your business. Therefore, the process needs meticulous evaluation and utmost care during selection. To enable you to do this, it is best to have a game plan ready. That is, you must have a paradigm set up to be able to parametrize potential candidates for the job. This process is trickier than usual not just because of the critical role of the job, but also because of the fact that many parameters of the requirements cannot be quantified easily. Since the nature of reviewing candidates is highly subjective, you should know what exactly you should be looking for. Though at the end, a person is much different from a sum of his parts, it is not recommended that you should go with a vague assessment. A Leader of Men

When heading an enterprise it is important to recognise that qualities required to lead a unit of diverse individuals successfully. So, are you the right man for the job?

All around us exists a hierarchy of power on top of which sits the man who calls the shots, the man who presides over events, the one who leads by example or the one who encourages others to pursue their convictions for the betterment of the unit. Such examples lie in our workplace, in our governments, in our schools or colleges, in our sporting teams or on a personal level – our families. A leader may arrive in various shapes and sizes but at the end of the day he or she is judged on the ability to pull their teams through the bad times and exploit the good to the maximum.

The search for that 'unique skill'

What skills does a successful entrepreneur need? You can get the answer to that question by reading books on entrepreneurship or searching articles on Google (you can begin by reading some relevant articles on yourstory.in!). A little bit of research will throw up a fairly long list. The characteristics or skills needed include proactiveness, having foresight, people management skills, appetite for risk, willingness to admit mistakes and learn from them, passion, analytical skills, self confidence, fearlessness, creativity etc. But, then lot of these skills are needed by bankers, consultants, doctors etc. So, now I want to know what differentiates an entrepreneur? Is there a skill(s) or characteristic that is unique to entrepreneurs? What are those ‘unique’ attributes or skills which I need to be an entrepreneur, which a consultant or a doctor or someone else may not need (or may not have)?
