With innovation in software, hardware and internet technologies, use of various sensors (such as touch, GPS, accelerometer and compass) in computing/mobile devices are slowly becoming mainstream. 4 phones in every 10 phones in US are Smartphones. Most of the tablet devices today ship with built-in sensors. This new innovations demands Apps which understand software and hardware capabilities. However the use of these innovations have not been much exploited for creating rich and immersive Apps.
App4India contest – an initiative by YourStory.in – is the opportunity for you to build Software and Hardware aware Applications. This contest aims to identify and enable startups and independent developers like you to ideate on localized and immersive applications for everyday computing.
The contest is open to all developers based out of India who are more than 18 years old and have an idea for apps that are ready to take on this next wave of computing devices. Ideas can be submitted in one of the following categories:
- Gaming/Creativity/Entertainment
- Productivity
- Communication/Social Networking
Top 10 shortlisted App ideas from startups/developers will receive a smartphone and final winners will receive USD 2500.The top 10 apps ideas will be showcased during the grand finale of TechSparks 2012 at Bangalore on 8th September, 2012 and winners – best app idea in each category – will be announced at end of the event.

The winners will be selected based on the idea’s utility, user experience, novelty, engagement strength and the ability to monetize!
